The life of Jesus · Mark 5

Jairus’s Daughter and the Healed Woman

By the sea, Jairus, a leader of the synagogue, falls at Jesus’s feet: “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her!” On the way, in the crowd, a woman who has suffered from bleeding for twelve years touches his garment from behind: “If I touch even his garments, I will be healed.” At that instant, she is healed. “Who touched my garments?” Jesus asks. Trembling, she confesses everything. “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” Then word comes to Jairus: “Your daughter is dead.” Jesus tells him: “Do not be afraid; only believe.” With Peter, James, and John, he enters the house where people are weeping: “The child is not dead but sleeping.” They laugh at him. He takes the girl by the hand: “Talitha koum!” Immediately she gets up and walks; she was twelve years old.
