The end times · Revelation 21–22
The New Jerusalem
John sees a new heaven and a new earth; the sea is no more. The holy city, the new Jerusalem, comes down out of heaven from God, “prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” A voice proclaims, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men!” God will wipe away every tear; there will be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, nor pain. “Behold, I make all things new.” The city shines with the glory of God: twelve gates bearing the names of the twelve tribes, each made of a single pearl; twelve foundations bearing the names of the twelve apostles; a street of pure gold. There is no temple, for the Lord and the Lamb are its temple; no sun, for the Lamb is its lamp. The river of the water of life flows there, beside the tree of life. And the book closes: “Surely I come quickly.” — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
