The life of Jesus · Luke 7
The Widow of Nain’s Son
The next day, Jesus goes to a city called Nain, with his disciples and a large crowd. Near the gate of the city, he meets a funeral procession: a dead man is being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she is a widow. Many people from the city are with her. The Lord sees her, has compassion on her, and says, “Weep not.” He comes and touches the bier; the bearers stand still. Then he commands, “Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.” The dead man sits up and begins to speak, and Jesus gives him back to his mother. Fear comes on everyone, and they glorify God: “A great prophet is risen up among us; and God hath visited his people.” The news spreads throughout all Judea and the whole region around.
